Pro-Pulse vs PulseONE: What Changed and Should You Upgrade?

Pro-Pulse was Oradent's first smart sonic toothbrush, and it is now our previous model. If you are weighing up Pro-Pulse vs PulseONE, this guide covers what Pro-Pulse does well, what changed with PulseONE, and how to decide which suits you.

Pro-Pulse is still available while stock lasts, so both brushes may be on offer for a while.

What Pro-Pulse is

Pro-Pulse is a sonic toothbrush with three cleaning modes. It is IPX7 water resistant, charges on a USB magnetic base, and gives up to 30 days of battery on a charge.

For many people it was their first step up from a manual brush, and it helped change some everyday habits:

  • Letting the brush do the work. Sonic movement handles the strokes, so you guide rather than scrub.
  • Choosing a mode. Three modes let you pick a gentler or firmer feel for the day.
  • Brushing for the full time. Treating two minutes, twice a day, as the standard rather than a guess.

Those habits carry straight over to PulseONE.

What changed with PulseONE

PulseONE is the current Oradent brush. The biggest changes are practical ones you notice every day:

  • Battery: from up to 30 days on Pro-Pulse to 45 days on one charge, approximately six weeks, from any USB-C cable.
  • Charging: USB-C with no charging base, so there is nothing extra to keep on the bench or pack for a trip.
  • Body: a 71 g brushed aluminium body in Platinum, Rose or Graphite.
  • Storage: the Oradent WallMount, so the brush can live off the bench.
  • Pacing: SmartSense Brushing technology, a two minute timer with a short buzz every 30 seconds to move to the next quarter of your mouth.

PulseONE also uses SonicSweep technology, with 38,000 movements a minute and a head that sweeps 45 degrees side to side. Its touch sensitive button will not switch on in a bag while travelling. For a full side by side view, see our comparison page.

What stays the same

Both brushes are sonic, both have three modes, and both are IPX7 water resistant. If you are used to Pro-Pulse, PulseONE will feel familiar: you still angle the head towards the gum line, glide slowly and let the brush do the work.

On PulseONE the three modes are Sensitive, Deep Clean and Polishing, and a light ring shows which one you are in.

Replacement heads are not interchangeable

This is the one detail to get right. Pro-Pulse heads fit Pro-Pulse only and do not fit PulseONE, and PulseONE heads fit PulseONE only.

If you upgrade, you will need PulseONE heads: a 2-pack is A$29, or the Head Plan sends fresh heads on a schedule. White heads suit Platinum and Rose, and Graphite heads suit Graphite. PulseONE comes with two heads in the box, Precision Clean for everyday cleaning and Gentle Touch for sensitive teeth.

Should you upgrade from Pro-Pulse?

If your Pro-Pulse is working well and you are happy with it, there is no need to rush. Keep replacing the head about every three months and it will keep doing its job.

PulseONE makes most sense if you:

  • Travel often and want to leave the charging base behind.
  • Want a longer battery between charges.
  • Like the idea of 30 second pacing to keep each quarter of your mouth even.
  • Prefer a wall mounted brush to one on the bench.
  • Are buying a new brush anyway, for yourself or someone else.

Our guide to choosing an electric toothbrush with a timer explains why pacing helps.
