This guide shows how to use Pro-Pulse toothbrush features properly, from the first charge to looking after it day to day. Pro-Pulse is our previous model, still available while stock lasts, and our current brush is PulseONE. If you have a Pro-Pulse, everything below applies to you.
If you are new to sonic brushing, the main change is simple: you guide the brush, it does the movement.
Before your first brush
Charge it
Pro-Pulse charges on its USB magnetic base. Give it a full charge before first use. A full charge lasts up to 30 days, depending on how often and which modes you use.
Fit the head
Push the brush head firmly onto the brush until it sits snugly. Pro-Pulse heads fit Pro-Pulse only. PulseONE heads will not fit a Pro-Pulse, and Pro-Pulse heads will not fit a PulseONE.
Your first brush, step by step
- Wet the bristles and add a pea sized amount of fluoride toothpaste.
- Place the head against your teeth before switching on, so the toothpaste does not splatter.
- Choose the gentlest of the three modes to start.
- Angle the bristles at about 45 degrees towards the gumline.
- Hold the brush lightly and glide slowly from tooth to tooth. Do not scrub: the vibration does the work.
- Split your mouth into four quarters and give each about 30 seconds, for two minutes in total.
- Switch off before lifting the brush out of your mouth, then spit. There is no need to rinse away the fluoride.
The first few brushes can feel ticklish. That is normal and usually settles within a week or so.
Choosing between the three modes
Pro-Pulse has three modes. If your teeth or gums are sensitive, or you are moving from a manual brush, stay on the gentlest mode for the first week or two. Once it feels comfortable, try the others and keep the one that feels thorough without any discomfort.
Comfort is the guide. If a mode makes your teeth sting or your gums sore, go back to a gentler setting and speak with your dentist if it continues. Our article on electric toothbrush modes explains how to choose in more detail.
Cleaning and caring for Pro-Pulse
- After each brush: rinse the head under running water, shake off the excess and stand the brush upright to dry.
- Once a week: remove the head and rinse where it joins the brush, where toothpaste can build up.
- Water: Pro-Pulse is IPX7 water resistant, so rinsing it is fine. Dry it off before you set it back on the charging base.
- Heads: replace the head about every three months, after an illness, or as soon as the bristles start to splay.
What changed with PulseONE
PulseONE replaced Pro-Pulse as our current brush. The cleaning approach is still sonic with three modes, but several things changed:
- Battery: up to 30 days on Pro-Pulse, 45 days on one charge, approximately six weeks, on PulseONE.
- Charging: Pro-Pulse uses a USB magnetic base. PulseONE charges from any USB-C cable, so there is no base to pack.
- Body: PulseONE has a 71 g brushed aluminium body in Platinum, Rose or Graphite.
- Pacing: PulseONE adds SmartSense Brushing technology, a two minute timer that buzzes every 30 seconds so you know when to move to the next quarter.

Questions
How long does the Pro-Pulse battery last?
Up to 30 days on a full charge. How long yours lasts depends on how often you brush and which modes you use.
Can I use PulseONE heads on my Pro-Pulse?
No. Pro-Pulse heads fit Pro-Pulse only, and PulseONE heads fit PulseONE only. Check which brush you have before ordering heads.
Can I use Pro-Pulse with braces or dental work?
Many people with braces, crowns or veneers use sonic brushes, but every mouth is different. Ask your dentist or orthodontist which mode and technique suit your dental work.
My gums bled when I started. Is that normal?
Use the gentlest mode, hold the brush lightly and avoid scrubbing. If bleeding continues beyond a couple of weeks, or your gums are swollen or sore, book in with your dentist.
